Art Spot Korin
While studying art at university, I also work as a cook at a restaurant. It was while preparing staff meals-specifically pasta dishes that I encountered the phenomenon known as “emulsification.”
Emulsification is a process in which two liquids that normally do not mix-such as water and oil-disperse into one another as tiny particles, creating a unified, blended state.
I saw in this phenomenon a clue to understanding the nature of the world.
I found potential in the phenomenon of emulsification precisely because of its contradictory structure.
Water and oil are substances that do not naturally mix. Yet, through emulsification, they disperse within one another to form a unified state. I saw possibility in this paradox-the idea of things that do not mix coming together to blend.
The environment surrounding us is much the same; diverse people, nations, cultures, and ideologies exist while retaining their distinct differences, yet they form a single community.
This structure of emulsification-where unmixable elements coexist to create a unified whole seems to mirror the very nature of our world.
When will the world finally come together as one?
When will the world finally emulsify?
It was with these questions in mind that I created this body of work.
This exhibition uses motifs such as maps and architectural models to explore the nature of the world through the lens of emulsification.
